Zombie processes should have been called ghost processes.

They have unfinished business and can't move on until their death is acknowledged by their parents. That's totally ghost territory not zombie territory.

@iarna i propose that ghost processes aren't affected by `kill`, but by a new `exorcise` call

@mhutch sounds legit, zombie processes already aren't affected by `kill`

@iarna that's another argument in favor of calling them ghost processes - you should totally be able to `kill` zombies!

@mhutch @iarna now I have this picture in my head of them being stopped or resumed by turning towards or away from them

@iarna
Term "child" in context of processes is also extremely offensive. We kill processes, and killing children is worse than slavery mmmkay.

@rokups While the imagery is disturbing, they're not really comparable.And given your 'mmmkay" I think you damn well know that.

@iarna right eh! and harmless ghosts at that, not even poltergeists

real zombie processes would try to attach to and chew on the control loop of other processes, thereby turning them to zombies too

they'd be much worse
