New blog post: How to use the Zoom malware safely on Linux if you absolutely have to
“When I agreed to speak at Creative Mornings Istanbul tomorrow, I didn’t know they were holding the event over Zoom. I guess it’s fitting that the series I’m speaking at is called Insecure.“

I'm honoured to be referenced in this 👍 essay by @SimonFParker@twitter.com, local govt dude who sees a future of "conservative anarchism" (borrowing the phrase from @audreyt@twitter.com)
IE let's eliminate domination hierarchies while avoiding too much collateral damage 🏴☮️
Congratulations to Boston, which just banned facial surveillance technology. This is another step toward protecting civil liberties everywhere. https://www.wbur.org/news/2020/06/23/boston-facial-recognition-ban Learn about face surveillance and why we supported legislation to defend privacy rights: https://protonmail.com/blog/face-surveillance-moratorium/
I've mentioned this before but I'll say it again: if you want some wholesome / nostalgic internet times, check out Wiby, the "Search Engine for the Classic Web". It's based on (moderated) user submissions of old school websites. Use #WibyFinds to post the good stuff you come across!!!
I just found Zack's Snake Page, which is actually just a giant image with hot zones you can click to go to other images???
@vfrmedia @vantablack I think the fediverse will survive whatever declarations The Orange Menace makes, but it's worth keeping an eye on what happens with section 230. Worst case: some US based instances might need to host from the EU or elsewhere.
Longer term, admins should also be thinking about hosting on onion addresses, but remaining on the clearnet if at all possible should be a primary aim due to accessibility.
boosts appreciated. looking to get more serious about growing food in my apartment.
I have plenty of sun and enough money to reasonably get started.
I need to know things about: how to start things from seeds, space solutions that aren't $70 cutesy shelves that I could build for cheaper, and what I should be growing.
main growing area is a large NW window. no access to power tools at the moment. I am content with the idea of my entire apartment looking like a greenhouse.
No-till garden ideas
Here's several kinds of garden beds you can build that don't till.
Tilling has several disadvantages to you and the garden. First, it'll kill your fuckin back! It's the hardest part of gardening. And it encourages weeds, the second-hardest part, by encouraging dormant seeds to sprout.
It's also bad for the environment as it releases sequestered carbon. And it disrupts the lives of fungal mycorhizomes.
some people freak when they see mushrooms in their gardens. For many reasons, be glad
First, it means your soil is good and the shrooms want in too
Second, fungi and plantae made a deal aeons ago before mammals were even a thing that fungi would colonize the roots of plants to help them digest the minerals present in the soil in exchange for simple sugars the plants provide via photosynthesis, which fungi cannot do.
They have a great, mutually beneficial relationship that predates all of us.
I think more #COVID19 #MutualAid groups should be starting buying clubs. By buying everything wholesale and distributing it to the people who need it, not only can you save a lot of money by cutting out the middleman of retail, but you also reduce risk of transmission since people won’t have to go to public areas as often to get necessities. Just order a bulk shipment from a supplier, have it delivered to someone’s house, then have the mutual aid network deliver it to the people who needed it
