Beginning to think that the push to make AI that produces creative work is the result of the sublimated urge to make art in people who have been taught to devalue creative work.

Like, in all ai art, you can see the turd polishing that comes out of an artist who thinks that art/writing is only worth doing if it's detailed/finely finished, but has no patience with laying down the bones of an image.

It's working backwards and it shows.

There is an alternate timeline where the semantic web took off and there was wide investment in ontological tooling to ensure that the information in academic papers, websites, and applications was structured and accessible to future processing.

We instead live in a world where all the useful data is trapped inside proprietary formats, and entangled in meaningless prose - a world primed for large language models to come along and hallucinate the data that might contained therein.

Ok, so there is much discussion about the alt text on pictures. My mom is legally blind. As she has gotten older her sight is almost gone. She LIVES on the computer and to say she gets excited when special attention is paid for the blind is a great understatement. Please use alt text and describe the pictures you post. A couple of days back a user with the MAP ("Minor Attracted Person"; Pedophilia dogwhistle) flag in their profile picture followed me. As of now, they're still there despite federating a report.

Given that persuing their timeline I've seen what looked like COVID denialism (though I didn't look too closely, and don't have a link to hand) and reports from others of antisemitism and extreme right wing shit from that instance, I recommend a yeet with extreme prejudice.
