A woman who survived the white nationalist El Paso massacre in 2019 at a Walmart that left 23 dead, has been deported after being pulled over for a broken tail light. She was then transferred to ICE and deported before she could even speak to a lawyer. https://itsgoingdown.org/this-week-in-fascism-96-groypers-implode-far-right-plots-uncovered-biden-deports-el-paso-survivor/
In the wake of the far-Right storming of the capitol, the Center is pushing for a new 'war on terror' that threatens dissent. How can social movements push back against a possible wave of repression? We spoke with Lauren Regan at the @CLDC to find out. https://itsgoingdown.org/state-repression-in-changing-terrain-an-interview-with-lauren-regan-from-the-civil-liberties-defense-center/
@restioson Won't be easy. :S There will always be people trying to distort or misrepresent us, but we need to stop gearing our propaganda to ourselves and our bubble. We need ambassadors, and protocols of reaching out to people who might not know the first thing about anarchism -- like myself, two years ago! So short, punchy, simple explanations that target misconceptions and lies, and we should flood every platform we can with them, refraining from our usual memes and pithy reductions.
Been speaking to some people about the value of propaganda and messaging, and just stumbled across a video by a social-democrat I actually like from a year ago, and he explains how we're seen.
I do not care what platform we do it on, but ALL far-left persons need to rethink our messaging. To 99% of the world, 'anarchism' means violent chaos; no prisons means we won't punish the worst crimes; no borders means we'll tolerate religious terrorists.. We need to fix this. NOW.
On a related note to my last toot, what the hell is the deal with Tommy Robinson? I only saw his own speeches from a few years ago and for a while thought he was pretty hard done by. But now I see him defending obvious islamophobe arseturtles and saying pretty messed up shit. Pretty sure he can't be the victim he pretends to be.
So, I saw Thought Slime mention that Coca Cola backed death squads and it just reminded me of how little I know, I'm still learning. Can anyone elaborate on that and is there any other such thing I should know about a major brand? We don't talk enough about this sort of shit (even though we're the only ones talking about it, it seems)...
Those hit piece ads are not just disgusting, they're totally condescending as well. They really do think the working class are easily distracted idiots. Yeah, a video game system and kicking a football around, that's what the peasants care about nowadays.
This is heavy and important news. Border Patrol literally working hand in glove with members of AZ Patriots, who have harassed + attempted to vandalize mosques, attack migrants inside churches, and rubbed elbows with neo-Nazis that attended Unite the Right like Antonio Foreman. https://twitter.com/leftkist/status/1120475709787525121
2/3 of Alaska are not accessible because formerly iced roads are now slush. People are crashing and drowning. Sled dog races being called off. Seals losing floats of ice to give birth on. Industrial capitalism is a gun to our heads. https://phys.org/news/2019-03-alaska-linked-climate.html
Notice how if someone complains about shitty or unnecessary government encroachment, people are primed to respond like trained dogs with deference to authority.
"Why don't you like speed cameras?! Are you an irresponsible driver?"
No, the limits are set low to frustrate people into being caught by hidden cameras even when there's no traffic and fines disproportionately affects the poor.
"Oh. Uh. Why don't you agree to pervasive govt. surveillance?! Have you got something to hide?!"
Trump quietly rewrote the rules of drone warfare, which means the US can now kill civilians in secret -
Ilhan Omar is right. No one should be supporting a reactionary, apartheid state - especially when it's done in the interest of militaristic #imperialism.
Painting her criticism as anti-Semitic is a cynical ploy to stop us from looking at what's going on behind the curtain.
Godddd stop spreading the propaganda that entry-level retail workers are punished for other people's shoplifting. They aren't! I've worked retail for 4 years at 5 different places (Walgreens, Target - at 2 locations, Sam's, and 2 local places) and have never heard of this happening. Shrinkage is considered part of expenses, entry-level employees aren't expected to stop shoplifting (and are more often explicitly told not to), and this is definitely against company policy at any big chain
I'm sure it does happen under the table or at small businesses, but people talk about it like it's guaranteed every time you nick a drink. It's fucking not, and by saying this every single time someone talks about theft you're doing exactly what the capitalists - including the ones who enact this policy - want. They're holding workers hostage and you're giving in to their demands
Aussie left libertarian. No surprise there.
